Jacks Small Engines interactive parts diagram

This was one of my favorite projects while working at Jacks Small Engines. The goal was to replace a third party application that only ran on a single page of the website and inside of an iframe (no SEO value), with a new custom built version that put each piece of equipment on its own unique page with content that could be indexed by search engines.

I had hope to be able to use some open-source libraries for some of the interactions, like dragging the diagram. But, what I found wasn’t built for dragging a larger item inside of a smaller bounding box. So, I wrote my own.

This new section was a great success, launched without any complaints from customers, and continued to be one of the most popular sections of the website.
